The DGU in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki ensures the smooth operation and upgrade of the Institution’s network and computing infrastructures. Utilizing these infrastructures, we aim to develop modern digital services that facilitate your work.
We strive to disseminate, develop, and support new technologies within the University through our continuous collaboration with the Institution’s administrative and academic units.
We participate in relevant research/development projects to maintain cutting-edge expertise and secure resources that allow us to introduce new technologies into the University’s educational, research, and administrative processes in a timely and reliable manner.
The DGU was established, and administratively organized and operates at the Directorate level based on the Government Gazette Issue B’ 5723/16.10.2024. Additionally, it coordinates, on a strategic and technological level, the activities of the Research Committee’s Computerization Department (RCD), while in 2024, the Directorate of Computerization (DC) and the Library & Information Center’s Technology Office of AUTH (LIC) were integrated into it. Before the publication of the relevant Government Gazette, it operated as the Information Technology Center (IT Center) following the Senate’s approval at the session of July 4, 2012, of the proposal by the Committee of Communication Networks and Informatics for the unification of the four IT and communication centers of AUTH (Network Operations Center, IT Technology Support Center, Telecommunications Center, and Scientific Computing Services Center) and later the Semantic Web Unit.
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) touch upon the entire range of educational, research, and administrative activities of AUTH.
The DGU takes care of:
- the operation of technological infrastructures that enable internet access, the telephone network, and user communication in general,
- access to computing resources and software,
- the development of modern and efficient services that serve the Academic community, facilitating its daily work,
- technical support and educational training activities for the academic community.
ICT services are vital for the smooth and effective operation of the University and are essential to all of us on a permanent basis. At the same time, they are able to increase productivity and upgrade the quality of the University’s services.
