AUTh Emergency Incident Reporting Service

Immediate Incident Location Sharing with AUTh Security Service
  • The purpose of this service is to enable members of the University Community to immediately report an emergency incident (such as illegal or criminal activity, health emergencies, or damage to the University’s infrastructure) to the Security Service within the university campus. This service does not replace communication with local emergency services (Police, Ambulance Service, Fire Department), which operate 24/7, nor the European emergency number “112.” Instead, it works complementary to those services, allowing the Security Service of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), which also operates 24/7 from the Administration Building, to be immediately notified and take appropriate action.

The application makes use of the existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) infrastructure of AUTh, utilizing GPS location services from portable devices (tablets or mobile phones) for outdoor areas, and Wi-Fi fingerprinting technology for determining the location of incidents in indoor spaces.

In the first phase, the mobile app supporting the service is available for Android portable device users. You can download the CampusSafety app from this link.

To prevent potential misuse or abuse of the service, the application requires user authentication through the institutional user account. Use of the service is entirely optional, and AUTh only collects strictly necessary data to fulfill the purpose of the service.

The service was developed by the Digital Governance Unit of AUTh, in collaboration with an external contractor with research expertise in geospatial data, by utilizing AUTh’s existing GIS infrastructure.

  • The service can be used by all members of the University Community who have an active institutional user account and own an Android portable device.

  • The CampusSafety service is governed by specific terms of use.
