Personal Storage Space – files.auth.gr

Online personal file storage
  • The files.auth.gr service offers all members of AUTh personal storage space accessible from computers within AUTh or through a device connected to the AUTh VPN.

Specifically, the following features are provided:

    • 20 GB of available storage space

    • Easy recovery of deleted files from backups and access to previous file versions

    • Secure data transfer and high transfer speeds within AUTh’s data network

    • Protection of files from risks associated with local storage on personal computers (e.g., viruses, ransomware, hardware failures, theft)

The storage space is provided by a specialized disk array with very high fault-tolerance, and it is further supported by a separate backup system (e.g., in case of disasters).

    1. You must have an active institutional account at AUTh
    2. You must have enabled the service “Access to Central Computing Services(enabled by default)
    3. You must be using Windows 10 or 11 operating system
  • Usage

You can manage your personal storage space using the following methods from a computer within AUTh or connected to the AUTh VPN:

    • Via the path: \\files.auth.gr\username
    • From centrally managed computers, you have direct access to your personal storage space through a mapped network drive, visible under This PC
    • By manually mapping a network drive (for computers outside central management)

To connect to the storage space, you must use your official institutional email and the password of your AUTh account, in the format: username@xxx.auth.gr & password.

All the above methods ensure encrypted transmission of credentials and files to prevent exposure during transfer over the internet.

For detailed instructions, please refer to the User Manuals of the current webpage.

    • The Digital Governance Unit (DGU) ensures the daily creation of regular backups (shadow copies), which are retained for at least one month. In the future, the retention period may be extended if it becomes technically and financially feasible.

    • The shared network folder is only accessible within AUTh’s network or through the AUTh VPN service, and only the designated users can view or modify its files.

    • The allocated space is not suitable for general-purpose use, such as software installation.

    • It is not recommended to store personal audio/video files, photos or executable files that do not serve administrative or research purposes.

  • Technical tickets for Incidents or Scheduled Maintenance.
