As part of its offered services, the Digital Governance Unit (DGU) provides the capability to produce high-quality educational audiovisual material that meets the needs of courses offered both by the Schools of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and by other horizontal units of the university (such as the Lifelong Learning Center, the School of Modern Greek Language, etc.). The goal is to address contemporary educational demands and to enhance the outreach and visibility of AUTh.
The studio is located in a specially designed space within the Digital Governance Unit’s facilities, on the ground floor of the Faculty of Law building.
The studio supports the following recording scenarios, either for live streaming or for recorded content:
-
Video lectures
-
Video lectures combined or synchronized with an interactive whiteboard and/or slides
-
Podcasts, narrations using slides, or screen recordings with real-time voice-over narration
These three scenarios are supported in two distinct studio settings:
-
A permanent video recording background
-
A monochromatic green screen background for “chroma key” techniques, allowing the use of virtual backgrounds.
-
-
The service is available to appointed permanent staff of AUTH (including academic staff, Heads of Central Units, and members of the Rector’s Office), who may submit their requests via the online form titled “Request for audiovisual material production in the studio.”
-
The production of audiovisual material for open or closed online courses in the studio must cover course content that is actually taught at AUTh. The course must be part of the official Curriculum (Program of Studies) of a School or included in programs offered by the Center for Training and Lifelong Learning of AUTh or the School of Modern Greek Language.
-
The content of each course must be complete, allowing for independent study.
-
In special cases, requests pertinent to activities outside the standard curriculum may be approved, such as introductory orientation courses for new students, presentations of the University’s Programs of Studies, or other initiatives that enhance the outreach of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
-
All requests will be reviewed by the responsible unit of the DGU and will be scheduled upon approval, based on mutual agreement.
-
- Permanent members of AUTh submit their request using the “Request for audiovisual material production in the studio” form.
- The request may optionally include additional information such as:
- Lecture title
- Speaker
- Lecture topic
- Brief description
- Lecture keywords
- Files, such as notes and presentations
- Once the request is approved, you will be notified by the Digital Governance Unit, and a specialized team will support you throughout the entire process — from the production of the digital multimedia content to the publishing of the course online.
-
- The production of the content is intended strictly for educational/academic and, in all cases, non-commercial purposes.
- Each multimedia file will be accompanied by metadata containing all necessary information to protect the intellectual property rights of both the creators and AUTh.
- For the use of any third-party copyrighted material, it is the applicant’s responsibility to obtain the necessary permission from the rights holder.
- Users are fully accountable and responsible for the content and information presented.
- Service users assume any costs or compensations or fines that may arise from third-party claims regarding copyright infringement.
- The DGU bears no responsibility for any violations of third-party rights committed by the applicant.
- The views expressed and the content published through the produced material reflect solely those of the individual expressing them and do not necessarily represent the positions of AUTh.
- The administrators of the AUTh DGU studio hold no liability for any damages resulting from the use of the service.
- During recording sessions, and whenever the “Recording” indicator light outside the studio is on, entry into the studio area is strictly prohibited.

Operational Scenarios
The studio supports the following video recording scenarios, either for live streaming or for recording:
- Video lectures
- Video lectures combined or synchronized with an interactive whiteboard and/or slides
- Podcasts, voice-overs using slides, or real-time voice-over narrations over computer screen recordings (screen recording)
These three scenarios are supported in two distinct studio settings:
- A permanent video recording background
- A monochromatic green screen background for chroma key techniques, allowing the use of virtual backgrounds
Specifically, the studio is primarily equipped to handle the recording of lectures and greetings. It supports the simultaneous video recording of up to two presenters, seated or standing (one-quarter face shot), using a two-camera system setup. To facilitate the process, an autocue (teleprompter) and an interactive whiteboard are available. The integration of graphic elements and artificial preset backgrounds via green screen is also supported in the final production.
Example Scenarios
Two indicative scenarios are described below:
- First Scenario: The presenter/instructor appears on one side of the frame, and an interactive presentation screen appears on the other. The instructor delivers their presentation using the interactive screen, and the session is recorded with two cameras.
- Second Scenario: Two presenters/instructors are featured, with an interactive screen positioned at a 90° angle to their right, where they present their material. One camera alternates between focusing on each presenter and the interactive screen, while the second camera captures both presenters. The best shot is selected live by the technician/director.
General Information
To ensure a high-quality result, the following are particularly helpful:
- Thorough preparation and targeted allocation of time, organization of content structure, and presentation goals. It is strongly recommended to rehearse your script before arriving at the studio to save time and resources. When using the autocue, the script should be written in a conversational tone: easily readable, with short sentences and paragraphs, a simple structure, natural phrasing tailored to the speaker, with intentional pauses or breaks where appropriate. In any case, the presentation and overall production must align with the scenarios offered by the service.
- Appropriate attire/appearance: Clothing can significantly affect the quality of the final product. Avoid wearing white, black, green, or bright red. Instead, opt for shades of gray or solid-colored clothing without stripes, plaid, or other patterns. Important: For recordings using a green screen and chroma key techniques, avoid any green items (e.g., green jewelry, painted nails) and accessories that reflect light.
Produced Multimedia Files
- The final deliverable will be in “.mp4” or “.mp3” format, depending on the type of content (audiovisual or audio-only).
- The material is delivered based on the order of approved requests.
- The DGU retains the produced file for one year from the date of recording.
